Background:
Hot chocolate is a staple hot beverage! We’ve all put the powder into a mug before and added water or milk to it. But, I’ve not made it from scratch with actual chunks of chocolate. After searching the web, I found this recipe and decided to give it a go! I knew this version could be quite calorific, and so wanted to make the drink healthier. After some swaps, I was really pleased with result!

My swaps to make the above recipe healthier:
- low fat crème fresh instead of double/heavy cream
- Skimmed milk instead of whole milk
- 85% dark chocolate instead of 70% dark chocolate
Tips and Tricks:
- You could add in a tsp of cinnamon to compliment the dark chocolate
Recomendation and rating:
Right off the bat, the hot chocolate was rich and indulgent! The consistency was creamy and satisfyingly smooth, almost like drinking chocolate syrup! You can see why some prefer to tackle it with a spoon. Because it’s rich, half a mug’s worth will probably please your desire! In the end, it certainly went down well with the people who tried it! Most liked the flavour and didn’t feel guilty about having it, as the final result was healthier due to the swaps made. Overall, a good drink but not revolutionary and so it gets 4 stars!
