Homemade Burger

Backstory:

After watching a challenge episode of MasterChef Canada, I was inspired to make a burger. I started scrolling and found this recipe; I’m glad I did, as everyone liked it!

Burger sauce: https://www.allrecipes.com/copycat-onion-wrapped-flying-dutchman-recipe-8553215

Caramelised onions:

  • Peel and finely chop 2 onions
  • Add onions to a saucepan with oil and a sprinkle of sugar
  • Fry for 10 mins until brown, but if seen starting to stick to the pan, add in water to deglaze and keep stirring

Tips and Tricks:

  • Watch onions closely when frying to avoid burning
  • Add in gochujang paste instead of ketchup in the sauce for a little heat
  • Top with salad of your choice

Recommendation and rating:

Overall, it was a pleasant and filling dinner! The tanginess of the sauce, paired with the sweet caramelized onions, was a hit. The vegetables, like the tomatoes, added freshness, and the runny yolk was a welcome addition. However, the lettuce felt a bit lost, and the seasoning in the burger wasn’t noticeable in the end result. Suggestions were made to add onions directly into the burger mix, change the spices, and experiment with the meat combination. To that end, I give this a solid 3 stars!

Rating: 3 out of 5.
